Replacement of 6" Water Main – Luke AFB, AZ

UCC was contracted by Luke AFB, AZ under a sole source 8(a) negotiated contracting agreement for the installation of a new 6” HDPE water main.  The new water line is being installed on a major street through the center of Luke AFB.  UCC is responsible for all permitting, traffic control, excavation, water main installation, installation of new valves, installation of new crosses, installation of new “T” s, backfill, compaction, compaction testing, surface restoration and as Built drawings.  Surface restoration includes curb, gutter, asphalts paving, stripping, and landscaping.  In order to connect the new service UCC had to horizontal bore under the Luke AFB aircraft static display, almost 400 linear feet. This project has had various issues facing it.  The primary is underground utility locates.  Because there are both private and Luke owned utilities within the excavation zone, utility locates have been difficult.  Although UCC has secured both AZ Blue Stake markings and Luke AFB marking numerous additional unmarked utility lines both abandoned and active have been found via potholing activities.  Work continues to progress on schedule and on budget.  The project is currently scheduled to complete on 17 April 2010 one week ahead of the original project completion date.
