Removal and Replacement of 31 Water Valves – Luke AFB

UCC was contracted to excavate, removal and replace various water valves throughout Luke AFB.  Work included the removal and replacement of 6, 8, 10 and 12 inch water valves, replacement of water line crosses and Ts, traffic control, asbestos abatement (transit pipe), concrete curb and gutter work, backfill, compaction, paving and general site restorations.  Due to the fact “as built” drawing of the underground piping systems were not accurately tracked by Luke AFB many of the valve were not as anticipated.  Many of the sizes listed in the scope of work were incorrect, unanticipated transite pipe was discovered and many other differing site conditions.  UCC and Luke AFB agreed for UCC to continue to work through the site changed conditions as water needed to be restored to the impacted facilities.  Work was completed on Phase II in January 2010 and UCC anticipates being asked to bid Phase III on an 8(a) sole source contract.
